Youngster looking forward to new challenge

Shrewsbury Town's new signing Alex McQuade admits he is excited at having a new challenge to look forward to after penning a one-year deal at the Greenhous Meadow.

McQuade, a reserve team regular for Bolton Wanderers, impressed manager Graham Turner during a couple of reserve team run outs and is pleased to have resolved his future.

"It's exciting to have something sorted out for next season," said McQuade. "I spoke to the manager and everything seems really positive for next season. I can hopefully crack on now and get a few games under my belt.

"I've played a few games in the reserves already so got to know the staff and the players. They've all been welcoming.

"I was nervous when I first came in because I've been at Bolton for seven years and never really known anything different.

"But I came in and obviously Tom Eaves was here as well and he introduced me to the lads. I think we won both reserve games I played and Tom had nothing but good words to say about the manager, the staff and all the lads.

"If anything, he put good words in my ear and swayed my decision to come here."

McQuade, comfortable at left back or at the heart of the back four, added: "I was at Bolton from the age of 13 so it's all I've known but now I just want to start getting first team games under my belt."
