Jones undergoes surgery

24 April 2013

It's hoped defender will be back in 3 months

Shrewsbury Town defender Darren Jones underwent surgery on his injured shoulder in Manchester last weekend while back four colleague Jermaine Grandison is set to find out more about the condition of his hip later this week.

Jones has been absent since dislocating his shoulder at Carlisle United on Good Friday.

"Darren has had his surgery and will now start his rehabilitation," said manager Graham Turner. "We expect it to be three months."

Physio Chris Skitt added: "Everything went very well and he is well into his rehab to ensure his fitness is gained in the best possible time.

"Realistically, we should hope to see him in contention for fitness at the start of next season.

"We have laid out a plan for Darren who is also getting married in the close season in order to make sure we reach each marker we want to hit."

As for Grandison, troubled by a hip complaint for much of the second half of the season, GT revealed both player and club should know more later this week.

He added: "Jermaine's going to see a specialist again down in Cambridge towards the end of the week so we'll see what the prognosis is.

"The same specialist is going to have a look at it and we'll see what he advises, whether surgery is necessary or whatever."
