Physio Scott ready for London Marathon

Scott is hoping for sub 4 hour marathon run

Scott Gormley, Shrewsbury Town's assistant physio, is gearing up for the challenge of running the London Marathon this weekend and hopes to raise £1,000 for Macmillan Cancer.

Scott, 24, who has worked at the Greenhous Meadow alongside senior physio Chris Skitt for the last two years, has been training hard since Christmas and is excited to be taking part in his first marathon.

"I'm in good shape and I've done up to 22 miles and I was okay with that," he said. "I'm hoping to complete the course in under four hours and if I could do it in three hours 45 minutes that would be great.

"I've had a lot of support from the lads here who have sponsored me and so have many of the staff, and if I could raise £1,000 that would be great."

Scott, from Hinstock, said he decided to run the London Marathon for a new challenge while he was also keen to support such a worthy cause.

"Cancer sadly affects most people at some stage," he added. "I lost my grandad to cancer and the Macmillan nurses did so much for us.

"It's a great cause to be able to support as they are self funded."

Scott will head to the capital on Friday to fine tune his preparations ahead of Sunday and added he would be grateful for any support Shrewsbury Town fans can offer.
