Reserves have much to gain

16 April 2013

Bury the visitors to reserves this afternoon

Graham Turner says there are first team places up for grabs ahead of this afternoon's reserve team clash at home to Bury (2pm).

Town will field a strong side against the Shakers in their final Central League match at home this season.

"We'll have a look how that goes and see who's performing and staking a claim for a place in the first team," said the manager.

"There's certainly a place to fill Tom Eaves's boots and obviously the performance against Bournemouth wasn't the best in the world so there might be other places up for grabs.

"What I want is to sit in the stand and see one or two of the players who haven't been playing recently in the first team to suddenly put on a show that says 'I've got to be picked for Saturday.'

"That's what I'm looking for and that's what you want from your reserve team football.

"There are a number of candiates that could come into the reckoning. I want to see something from them."

GT added the reserve side would include many of his first team squad members who have not figured too often at senior level in recent week's

"People like Paul Parry, Dave McAllister and Aaron Wildig will all play," he said. "Tom Bradshaw will be up front with Akwasi Asante.

"Connor Goldson will have half a game and he will obviously be in the reckoning for Saturday if Jermaine Grandison doesn't make it."

Admission to this afternoon's game is £3 adults and £1 concessions while season ticket holders, Sovereign Club members and Super Blues Club members will be admitted free.
