Weale The Winner At Awards

29 April 2013

Chris walks away with top awards

Chris Weale capped a great season with Shrewsbury Town by walking off with the prestigious Player of the Year award.  At the annual Player of the Year awards night sponsored by Greenhous the awards were handed out to the players who have achieved over the season.

And the winners were -

Young Player of the Year sponsored by WPG – Jon Taylor
Community Award – Joe Jacobson
Goal of the Season sponsored by Greenhous – Jermaine Grandison in the game away to Notts County on September 8th
Player’s Player of the Year sponsored by MediaBox – Chris Weale
Top Goalscorer sponsored by Molson Coors -  Matt Richards
Player of the Year sponsored by Greenhous – Chris Weale

The awards for Chris Weale were in recognition for the excellent season that he’s had between the sticks for Town.  After a slow start he’s improved game by game and put in numerous match winning performances that have helped to cement Town’s League 1 status:”I’m very privileged and it’s very nice to get two awards this evening.

“It’s not my motivation to get personal awards but it is always a great honour to get awards from your fellow players and from the fans.

“It has been a good season for me, this time last year I was sat at the Leicester awards on crutches watching Kasper Schmeichel get all the awards that evening.  I was recovering from a serious knee injury unsure if I would ever play again, all you have to do is believe in yourself.  Shrewsbury took the chance on me and I must thank the Gaffer, Skitty and Gavin for taking the chance on me.”
