Winners have been chosen for npower work experience project
Shrewsbury Town Football Club will provide three local students with an opportunity to gain a rare insight into how the Community Sports Trust operates and the different job roles that exist within the Trust.
A national work experience project, offered by npower and the Football League, proved to be a resounding success in schools throughout the county.
The initiative was designed to encourage students to start thinking about their future and what type of career they may like to pursue.
Jenny Daniel, the Trust’s community development officer at Shrewsbury Town, has spent the last few months visiting schools and delivering sessions to showcase the vast and varied jobs available to young people, both on and off the football pitch, and demonstrating the range of employment opportunities which exist for both males and females.
"The session was delivered to Year 10/11 students where different types of jobs within the football industry were explored," said Jenny.
"This allowed students to identify various skills, qualities and qualifications that would be required for certain jobs, as well as identifying the skills and qualities they feel they have as individuals that will help them become more employable in the future.
"The outcome of the session was to offer three students within the county the opportunity to spend four days shadowing certain roles within the football club as a work experience placement over Easter.
"Those wishing to apply had to complete an application form explaining why they would be suitable for the role applied for. They had to list the skills that they would bring to the job and what it would mean to them if they were successful.
"We were very impressed with the quality of the applications received, making it a very hard selection process."
Eventually, the three lucky winners were Aimee Shenton from Newport Girls High School together with Bobby Blythe and Natalia Alexander, both from Burton Borough School.
"Congratulations to Aimee, Bobby and Natalia," added Jenny. "We look forward to welcoming all three students to the Community Trust team in April."
