Graham looking forward to first team challenge

New loan recruit Graham Burke said he's delighted to have made the switch from Aston Villa to Shrewsbury Town on a youth loan which will run until January.

Burke, a current Republic of Ireland under-21 international, is expected to go straight into Graham Turner's squad for Saturday's trip to Leyton Orient.

"It only happened on Wednesday morning," said Burke, 19. "I was meant to be playing at Hinckley and I got a phone call at 3pm saying Shrewsbury had come in for me on loan which I was delighted about.

"This is my first loan move. I played in the Carling Cup for Villa last season but this will be the highest standard of football I've played so far.

"It will be a new experience for me playing against men, playing against more physical players and getting a taste of what first team football is like.

"I like to get on the ball, turn and create things. I like scoring goals too so hopefully I can do that."

Burke has been pleased with his progress with Premier League Villa since joining them when he finished school in Dublin.

"This is my fourth year at Villa," he added. "I went there when I was 16. They've got a great Academy with a record of bringing players through.

"It's improved my game massively. It's great training with the first team, seeing how they play and learning different things from different people.

"I look at Stevie Ireland and try and match the way he plays the game. That's who I look at to help my game."
