First “Legends Card“ Legend unveiled.

16 December 2013

Arthur Rowley the first to grace the Greenhous Meadow

Arthur Rowley has been unveiled as the first Shrewsbury Town figure to be recognised at the Greenhous Meadow in a celebration of the club's history.

The Legends Card was recently introduced to provide fans with a benefits system and also to help us change the outside of our stadium into a living memory of players and managers from our long history, and our Legends Card members have been voting on their favourite.

Members were asked for their top three choices, beginning with their most popular, and they were also asked to choose which of the four banner design options they preferred.

All – time Shrewsbury Town top goal scorer Rowley was top choice, and his banner now takes pride of place at the exterior of the Roland Wycherley Stand.

"Our Legends Card holders really got involved in the process and we thank them all for taking the time to vote. It's an exciting project and one which will pay tribute to some of the legends to have served Shrewsbury Town with such distinction over the years.

"More legends will be unveiled as time goes by, but I’m sure Arthur will be a popular first choice amongst our fan base”

"The Legends Card was primarily introduced as  a way of the club giving fans discounts on things they would not normally get access to (50% off at Alton Towers etc). There was also clearly a further desire from supporters keen to see something at the Greenhous Meadow which celebrated the club's history and some of the leading individuals to have represented Shrewsbury Town over the years.

"Membership of the Legends Card will help us over a period of time to put tributes to all our club legends up around the ground along with famous moments from the club's history, memories and badges.

"For as little as £20 for the year or £50 for three years, there are a string of benefits with the first 1,886 members also having the exclusive right of their names being immortalised on the fans' wall of honour which will be on show outside the stadium."

Richard said the Legends Card had been well received by supporters since being introduced but there's plenty of time for other members to come forward and join.

Among the benefits available for Legends Card members is 50 per cent off at Merlin Resorts such as Alton Towers and Lego Land, 25 per cent off Kurt Geiger, 25 per cent off Fragrance.com, 30 per cent off at Chill Factor (Ski and Snowboard Centres), and 50p off every Shrewsbury Town home matchday programme.

Other perks include a 10 per cent discount on Greenhous Meadow club shop purchases and 10 per cent off Sunday lunches at the club's Venue 1886.

“It is not too late to become a member so sure you join to have your say on how the banner should look and who the first legend should be,” added Richard.
