12 hour overnight tournament raises money

Shrewsbury Town Futsal Team Social Action Project

Shrewsbury Town's futsal team have been busy taking part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) which is a national programme for all 16 and 17-year-olds.

They took part in a successful team building weekend full of outdoor activities followed by workshops at SCAT designed to enhance their knowledge about the local community.

The team then put their heads together and decided they wanted to raise money for Shropshire Young Carers and they would do this by playing in a sponsored 12 hour overnight football tournament.

The team spent four weeks of planning to ensure the night ran smoothly. They were successful in getting a venue donated by Sundorne School and Sports College, food and drink donations from Jenny’s Catering, and even managed to recruit friends to play in the tournament alongside them.

Shrewsbury Town goalkeeper Chris Weale kindly came down to open the event and warm the lads up ready for their long night.

They had lots of food, drink and even an Xbox to keep them entertained while they weren’t playing a match. The night was a success and sponsorship of more than £140 has been collected so far.
