Squad head to RAF Shawbury

5 December 2013

Tough day ahead for first team

There's a tough day in prospect for the Shrewsbury Town squad who have headed to nearby RAF Shawbury to be put through their paces.

Graham Turner feels it's the ideal time to go to north Shropshire again, with the players no strangers to the RAF base having reaped the reward of several previous visits.

"We'll be in the hands of the PTIs there," said the manager. "I think they're preparing a beasting for the lads.

"I think I might have to tone it down because they're professional footballers and they won't be used to the different sort of training.

"We might go on the long runs, we might tow a land rover here and there, we might have a bit of contact training and all these sorts of things.

"But there are certain things you just have to be careful with with players, that we don't aggravate anything and we don't leave them in a state where they need two or three days off to recover.

"We've got a good relationship with Shawbury and the PTIs. We'll have a discussion before the session starts and finalise what we're going to do.

"But it will be a real hard session and then we'll see how the lads are on Friday after the beasting and decide what we're going to do then football wise and any more running.

"We'll programme the schedule to suit the condition of the players after the beasting at Shawbury."
