CST looking to start matchday cheerleader group
Shrewsbury Town's Community Sports Trust are looking to recruit cheerleaders to form a group to entertain the matchday crowd at the Greenhous Meadow.
Jenny Daniel, the Trust's community development officer, has teamed up with Joanne Hague from Topaz Dance School, to put together a squad of youngsters aged between nine and 17.
Auditions will be held at the Greenhous Meadow on Thursday, March 7 between 7 and 9pm, and on Tuesday, March 12 from 7.30 until 9.30pm.
"It's a great opportunity for local youngsters to come along to have some fun and meet new people," said Jenny. "They will then have the chance to provide entertainment at our home matches.
"Many other clubs already have cheerleading groups in place and they are always well received by supporters so we hope this will be a success and it's a good way for youngsters to become more involved with Shrewsbury Town."
Jenny and Joanne are looking for youngsters with a cheerful personality, ideally performance experience and the commitment to train hard.
Regular training sessions will be held on Tuesday evenings at the Greenhous Meadow between 7.15 and 8.30pm during term time. The cost for the 10 week block will be £40.
Jenny has recently takken on the role of community development officer and is aiming to implement and promote new initiatives within the Community Sports Trust to local groups reaching further into the community.
She feels the introduction of cheerleaders would be a positive step forward to enhancing the matchday experience from the start of next season onwards.
Joanne Hague has been a qualified and experienced dance teacher for 20 years and was among the first in the UK to gain her cheerdance qualification in 2007.
The Topaz Tigers gained a distinction in their exam for a fabulous group performance which they also performed at Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn last year.
