Programme open to youngsters aged between 16 and 19.
Shrewsbury Town's Community Sports Trust have taken the wraps off an exciting Futsal and Education Scholarship programme open to youngsters aged between 16 and 19.
Students enrolling on the course will be trained by Shrewsbury Town CST coaches thanks to a new educational course set up by the club's CST.
Lee Pugh, Shrewsbury Town community development manager, said: "It's a very exciting new educational course that we're setting up here at Shrewsbury Town with the Community Sports Trust.
"Over 40 of the 72 Football League clubs are currently running this Futsal scheme like Middlesbrough, Leeds United, Huddersfield Town and Bradford City."
The course will see scholars, based at the Greenhous Meadow, learning from the elite and receiving up to 10 hours of weekly training from UEFA level coaches while studying a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Sport.
Two year programme: Level 3 BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport (up to three A levels); regular coaching with club CST coaching staff; minimum of fortnightly fixtures at Birmingham Futsal Arena; wear STFC kit to train in and represent the club on matchdays; coaching/leaders awards including Futsal, FA Level 1 (more on request); Futsal Finals Festival in June.
Eligibility: You must be aged between 16 and 18 on September 1, 2013; you must have four GCSE's or equivalent at C grade or above including English and Maths; the motivation and enthusiasm to work and train hard.
What are the exit routes? The course is designed to provide an array of opportunity for graduates such as university degree, foundation degree, employment in leisure such as community coaching and refereeing, employment in other sectors, university/international, pro futsal player.
Futsal schedule: Similar schedule to an academy footballer which adds to the progessional element making the scholar feel part of the club and more likely to succeed; Weekends and evenings are free which is ideal for those who wish to continue playing 11-a-side or undertake part-time employment; Opportunities to work/volunteer for STFC Community Sports Trust scheme, paying back something to the funded course while enriching your CV.
Futsal League Clubs: You will be joining an exciting scheme that is already taking place at over 40 Football League clubs including Accrington Stanley, Bradford City, Cardiff City, Huddersfield Town, Leeds United, Middlesbrough and many more.
