Town fan top play the London O2 on Saturday
A keen Shrewsbury Town fan will be competing at a top London venue in the grand finals of the acclaimed Open Mic UK competition this weekend - and he wants fellow Town supporters to get behind him.
Henry Maybury, a young singer songwriter from Shrewsbury, has beaten thousands of other hopefuls to reach the finals of the prestigious talent competition at London's 02 Arena on Saturday.
Henry, aged 20, is a former student of Ellesmere College and is currently studying music with musical theatre at Chichester University.
He will perform a medley of his own songs and cover versions in front of an audience of thousands in the capital.
Open Mic UK 2012 is a national talent competition that searches for the UK’s best singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres who perform either covers or their own original material.
Chris Grayston, events co-ordinator for Open Mic UK, said: “We are looking to find an act that has something unique to offer, with both the ability to deliver a strong live performance and also the potential to become a professional recording artist.
Henry added: “I have worked incredibly hard at writing and performing my own songs to get this far in the competition, but now I am really looking forward to the finals, which of course may be a real challenge, but will also provide me with an unbelievably exciting chance to showcase my talents.
“I now need as many people as possible to show their support by visiting my Facebook page and viewing my YouTube videos.”
The final will provide Henry with an opportunity to impress not only judges such as national radio DJs Annie Nightingale and Charlie Hedges, but also many guests from record labels, agencies and important representatives of the entertainment industry.
Henry has become the last man standing from the Midland Area Finalists for the 17-22 year old catagory.
