CST delivering a programme to help local youngsters identify their career goals

Shrewsbury Town's Community Sports Trust is delivering a programme of in-school workshops to help local youngsters identify their career goals - with work experience placements at the Greenhous Meadow on offer.

It's part of a national programme entitled 'What's Your Goal?' which is being run by npower, the Football League sponsors, to give students across the country the chance to experience work life within the football industry.

As part of the in-school sessions run by the Community Sports Trust, local youngsters are shown how to complete an application form before being encouraged to apply for one of three sought after four-day work experience placements at the club which will take place during the Easter holidays.

The career-focused lessons are suitable for Year 10 and 11 students and will take place until the middle of next month. The closing date to apply for work experience at Shrewsbury Town is March 1.

Jenny Daniel, the club's Community Development Officer who is delivering the lessons, said: "We are offering the opportunity to come and shadow one of three roles at the club.

"They are community coach, ticket office co-ordinator and club shop co-ordinator.

"It is a real opportunity for young people to gain a valuable insight into what it's like to work in the world of football."

Martin James, head of community development at the Greenhous Meadow, added: "The opportunity to come and experience a work experience placement at the football club is much sought after.

"This work shop delivered by Jenny encourages young people to look at the variety of jobs that are available within the football industry as well as identifying the skills and personal qualities required to fulfil those posts.

"It is a great opportunity open to Year 10 and 11 students to enter the competition through their schools."

Any local schools interested in receiving a careers session from the club should contact Jenny Daniel on (01743) 289177 extension 215 or register their interest via email to communitysportstrust@shrewsburytown.co.uk
