Town supporter gears up an arduous fund raiser trek

A Shrewsbury Town supporter is gearing up an arduous trek to raise funds for Childreach International.

John Murphy, from Childs Ercall, needs to raise at least £2,450 by April to take his place on the expedition to Nepal which sets off in June.

John, 18, who is currently at university in Nottingham, said: "The trek is for Childreach International which is an international development charity that believe all children should have the opportunity to unlock their full potential in life.

"They start from the bottom up, working in partnership with local communities in the developing world.

"They address children’s most immediate needs, improving access to education, improved health, and greater child rights and protection. They operate in numerous countries like Tanzania, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Cambodia and Bangladesh."

John, who attends Shrewsbury Town matches whenever he has the chance, added: "I got involved in the expedition by going to a meeting at the university and afterwards decided to sign up by paying deposits.

"The actual date we leave for the expedition is June 16. I have until the end of April to raise at least £2450 for the Charity. A small amount of this will be used to pay for the excess costs that my deposit doesn't cover.

"The expedition is 15 days long, which includes the trek, and visiting some of the children that will benefit from the money raised. "
