GT: "Things are coming on nicely"

Players are impressing the gaffer over pre-season

Graham Turner is encouraged with how his Shrewsbury Town side are shaping up in pre-season as the search for new signings continue.

He was impressed with Town's attacking display in finding the net three times against a quality Championship side in Bolton on Saturday.

Now he's looking for a further improvement against Birmingham City at the Greenhous Meadow tonight (7.45pm).

"What I do know is things are coming on nicely," he said. "Obviously the recruitment side of it, we still need the new players coming in and there's that possibility that quite a few clubs have said 'yes, we'll let our players come out', but not until another couple of weeks.

"That is the difficultly particularly with our season starting two weeks before Premier League sides.

"They want to keep their players a little bit longer through pre-season before letting them out."

GT stressed he would always be prepared to bring in players on loan if he feels they can make a difference.

"I don't mind taking loan players," he added. "I've done it before and I'll do it again.

"If the quality is there and if they're putting on a Shrewsbury shirt for any length of time, you're quite happy for it to be a loan player.

"Some of the loan players we had last season like Tom Eaves for example, I'm not afraid to take players like that because they can have an influence on games and make a difference."
