Club backs ShrewsTrust initiative for Saturday

Shrewsbury Town are pleased to support a suggested initiative by ShrewsTrust for a Club/Retro Shirt Day for the opening match of the season with MK Dons.  It will be great to see as many fans as possible dusting off old retro shirts or more recent home and away shirts to fill the stands with colour.

Shrewsbury Town General Manager, Andrew Pugh says “ It is a cracking idea of ShrewsTrust and we are 100% in support of any initiative to brighten the mood on the match day. The close links between the club and the supporter groups is important and ShrewsTrust coming up with this idea provides a positive feel in the build up to the game.”

ShrewsTrust Chairman, Mike Davis says “It’s obviously been a difficult week for the fans and club with the new shirt being delayed but as fans we need to put this behind us on Saturday and get behind the team.  Given the fans support for the club’s history this is a great opportunity to fill the ground in blue and amber, lion badge, loggerheads or Shrew, we all support the same club and the most important thing going into Saturday is to get behind the team and start the season off with 3 points.”

Martin James, Supporter Liaison Officer, echoes the sentiments. “The players need a good level of support for this first test and what better way than to have fans in colourful attire.  Old shirts often bring about stories of games they were worn at and other anecdotes.  Let us build the atmosphere for Graham and the team.  Come on Town!”
