Twisted ankle problem for JT

Jon Taylor is racing against the clock to be available for the League One opener against MK Dons - but Shrewsbury Town manager Graham Turner is confident the winger will have recovered in time from an ankle injury.

Taylor has enjoyed an impressive pre-season and scored the opening goal of Tuesday night's 4-2 friendly victory over Birmingham City before limping off injured early in the second half.

"There's no bones damaged," said the manager. "He's twisted his ankle and it's going to be a fight now to get him fit for the opening day of the season.

"It's looking touch and go but we've got a good medical team and everything's being done to get him right and I'll put my money on him being fit."

GT stressed Taylor had become a key player for Town with his abillty to both create and take goalscoring chances.

"He creates things because of his pace," he said. "He can relieve the danger at the other end of the pitch with his ability to run with the ball and he gets goals so he's come on tremendously over the last six months, certainly from Christmas onwards last season.

"He's a valuable part of the team so we're desperate to get him fit for the MK Dons game."

GT added he was hopeful of adding to his squad later today but preferred to keep the identity of the player under wraps until everything is finalised.

"We should over the course of the working day take a loan player," he said. "He's a full back and that should be tied up I would hope over the next few hours.

"Experience tells me that you don't let anything out until everybody's put pen to paper and there is a lot of people that need to put pen to paper now including agents.

"But we're hoping that will be concluded over the course of today."
