Shrewsbury Town

We are delighted to have been able to sign up this top flight club for a pre-season friendly.  

As part of the contract Galatasaray have promised to field first team players for the fixture.  With a host of stars in their squad this could mean the likes of Didier Drogba,  Emmanuel Eboue, Wesley Sneijder and Johan Elmander gracing the Greenhous Meadow.

The match will take place on Saturday, 13th July, kick off at 3pm as the first fixture of the Galatasaray pre-season tour.  They are in England to take part in the Emirates Cup competition alongside Arsenal, FC Porto and Napoli.

To be able to secure this level of opposition is a major coup.  Jayne Bebb, club secretary, is excited by the prospect of the game.  “We were looking for something special for the team and supporters to experience this pre-season and after a lot of behind the scenes negotiation we have landed this attractive fixture against the Champions League quarter finalists of last season.” enthused Jayne.

The thought of the Turkish champions gracing the pitch at Shrewsbury is sure to whet the appetite of local fans as well as many supporters of Turkish origin around the region.  Galatasaray are well supported when they come to play in the UK at any level.

It is hoped that more European sides will be enticed to come to Shrewsbury in future.
