GT on young duo's contracts

Talks continue with Grandison after he declines offer

Graham Turner has welcomed the decision of home produced duo Jon Taylor and Connor Goldson to sign new contracts at the club.

But the manager revealed that injured defender Jermaine Grandison has declined the offer made to him and that talks would continue.

"Jon is getting close to 100 first team matches now," said GT "He's done very well and has scored some important goals for us so we're very pleased with that one.

"Connor's got the potential to be a good defender. He's learning all the time, getting strong all the time, so again that's pleasing."

But Grandison continues to keep his options open, with the manager saying: "We've had various emails and correspondence from his agent in which he has declined the offer so talks will continue."

Having completed three signings so far this summer in defensive trio Alex McQuade, Dave Winfield and Tamika Mkandawire, GT stressed he was hoping to add to his squad again when the opportunity presents itself.

"We're in talks with a number of players and agents," he added. "It's getting closer to almost a deadline when they want to be starting pre-season with everybody else.

"Whether that just quickens things up we'll see, but alI I can say at the moment is we are in talks."

GT is targeting forwards and also feels Town need to bring in a recognised right back.

"We need a right back," he said. "Connor is ultimately a central defender and we need a square peg in a square hole which would be a new right back so that's one of the positions we're talking to players about."
