Women's team quickly proves popular

14 June 2013

Impressive numbers flocking to this week's first training session at the GM

Shrewsbury Town's reformed women's team, run through the club's Community Trust, is already a big hit with impressive numbers flocking to this week's first training session at the Greenhous Meadow.

"Over 20 women attended so we were absolutely delighted with the turnout and the standard of play," said Jenny Daniel, Shrewsbury Town's community development officer.

"In the next few weeks we are looking to invite along as many local women aged 16 and upwards within the county who are interested in becoming part of the development of women’s football at Shrewsbury Town.

"Due to the level of interest we can already see the possibility of entering a team into a women's league for the new season."

Former Shrewsbury Town women’s team star Penny Brown (now Owen) was among the players to attend the opening session.

Training, under the watchful eye of experienced coaches, will continue each Tuesday night between 7.30pm and 8.30pm at the Greenhous Meadow.
The cost per session is £3 which will contribute towards the new club's running costs.

Anyone aged 16 and over is welcome to attend with more details available from Jenny Daniel at the club on 01743 289177 Ext 239/ 07580 473849 or via email at jenny.daniel@shrewsburytown.co.uk
