Akwasi wants to show what he can do in a Shrewsbury Town shirt
Akwasi Asante wants to show what he can do in a Shrewsbury Town shirt after completing a loan move to the Greenhous Meadow.
It's been a whirlwind day for the 20-year-old Dutchman who was training with Birmingham when he was told of Shrewsbury's interest this morning.
He quickly found himself training with the Town squad before jumping on the team bus to head north to Carlisle ahead of the Good Friday match at Brunton Park.
"I only got told at 11am this morning," said Asante. "I was training at Birmingham and got pulled over during the warm up to be told I was going to Shrewsbury.
"I drove over and joined in with the boys so it was all a little bit late notice but I'm here now.
"I've played here two or three times with the reserves and also the first team at Birmingham in pre-season.
"I also played at Shrewsbury last season when I was on loan to Northampton. That was my debut and we were a bit unlucky to not go away with a win but a draw was a good result for Northampton."
Asante admitted it had been a disappointing season so far as he had spent longer than he would have liked on the sidelines after pulling a hamstring.
But he's fit again now and keen to make up for lost time.
"I've only just come back and have been playing for the last three weeks," he said. "It's been very disappointing, being out for five months, but I'm here to play football and show what I can do. Hopefully I can finish on a high and take it on to next season."
As for his strengths, Asante said his main attributes were his power as he's quick and strong while he loves to score goals.
Now he's waiting to see if he will feature for Town at Carlisle tomorrow.
"Hopefully I'll be involved and can help the boys get a win, get three points and move on from there," he said.
