Cameron excited at his first derby date with Walsall
Young defender Cameron Gayle is excited at the prospect of playing his first local derby in a Shrewsbury Town shirt as the build up continues to Saturday's game at Walsall.
Gayle, who is on loan at the Greenhous Meadow from West Bromwich Albion until the end of the season, has held down a regular place in the Town side at right back in recent weeks.
Now he's relishing the chance to take on the in-form Saddlers at the Banks's Stadium.
"I'm looking forward to it," said Gayle. "A couple of lads I played with at West Brom, Sam Mantom and Paul Downing, are now at Walsall and playing regularly so it will be nice to play against them and catch up with them.
"It will be a tough game because they're doing well and they've won a few games in a row, but we can hopefully go there, play how we have been playing, and I reckon we can get the win.
"The two clubs are not too far apart so hopefully the ground will be quite full and our fans will get behind us and push us on."
Gayle is encouraged with Town's recent away form which has seen them win three of their last five away games at Coventry, Preston and Tranmere where he also popped up with his first Football League goal.
He said: "A while ago we weren't winning away from home but now it's turned around and we're doing well on the road now. We've got to keep that run going and beat Walsall."
As for his own form, Gayle added he was pleased to be contributing and insisted he was enjoying himself at Shrewsbury.
"I played a few games at left back when I first came in but right back's my preferred position and I'm enjoying playing there. I think I'm playng quite well and hopefully I can keep that going," he said.
