Pitch renovations begin

7 May 2013

Work begins to replace the GM playing surface

The morning after the final Greenhous Meadow match of the season, work has begun on the pitch with major renovations being carried out to ensure the playing surface is back to its best in time for the start of next season.

Groundstaff Richard Barnett and Andrew Muir are busy scarifying the pitch today, going up and down, across and two diagonals to ensure the inferior grasses are cleaned out and the pitch is levelled off.

Work will then start tomorrow at re-seeding the Meadow pitch with new seed, Johnsons Premier Pitch, being used this time.

Some 40 tons of sand will also be implemented as Richard and Andrew get to work at bringing the pitch back up to its usual high standard.

"It's a long job but it's one that needs to be done," said head groundsman Richard. "The weather and the harsh winter we had took its toll on the pitch last season, but we're working to ensure the pitch will be better than ever next season."
