GT looks for FA cup permission on loanees

Nicky Wroe is set for an extended stay at Shrewsbury Town with Graham Turner reaching agreement with Preston North End to keep the midfielder until January.

It would mean Wroe being available to play for Town in Saturday's FA Cup clash at Walsall, but there's mixed news on the other loanees.

Cristian Lopez has returned to Huddersfield, as revealed earlier, while GT is still waiting to see whether he will be able to call on the services of Middlesbrough winger Adam Reach and Wolves striker Liam McAlinden.

"In the case of Nicky Wroe, we're just in the process of extending the loan until January which will allow him to play in the FA Cup," said the manager. "The two clubs have agreed - the paperwork has yet to be formalised.

"With Nicky it's certainly good news so I'm pleased about that and the fact he will be available to play on Saturday.

"It's been relatively easy for him to come back and go into the side. I thought he put in a good performance on Saturday against Sheffield United and he's a decent, combative, strong midfield player that knows what the game's about. He's been a big asset for us."

GT is now waiting for Middlesbrough and Wolves just to confirm what the situation is with Reach and McAlinden respectively.

He said: "I've just spoken to Middlesbrough, to Mark Venus, and it's a difficult situation for him as caretaker manager so I think there will be some discussion up there as to whether Adam Reach can play in the FA Cup for us.

"At the moment Wolves have said "no" to Liam McAlinden but we're having another go just to try and persuade them to allow that to happen."

With Lopez returning to Huddersfield, GT added he was targeting an addition to his front line.

He said: "We're just talking to one club in particular about a fairly experienced striker coming to us until January so we'll see how that unfolds before the end of the week and see whether he's available for us for this weekend."
