Buy your balloon from Shropshire and Mid-Wales Pituitary Group
A charity balloon race will see hundreds of balloons launched on the Greenhous Meadow pitch at half time of Saturday's match against Sheffield United.
All proceeds will go towards the Shropshire and Mid-Wales Pituitary Group.
Balloons are now available at a cost of just £1 and there will be a £50 cash prize for the balloon that travels the furthest.
Money raised by kind donations from the public pays for room hire for the group to hold meetings for those suffering a Pituitary condition to be able to meet and chat with others suffering similar Pituitary conditions over a cup of tea and a biscuit in a local modern Community Centre.
These meetings are open to the carers, family and friends of those suffering Pituitary conditions to help them try to understand what the pituitary sufferer is trying to cope with. It is important for those suffering a Pituitary condition to know they are not alone.
Not many people know how devastating some Pituitary conditions can be for the sufferer, coping with physical changes to the body.
This year the group have been busy once again, going out into local communities of Shropshire and Mid Wales Raising Awareness of Pituitary conditions by kind permission of a number of stores.
The group have so far hand-delivered 67 GP factfile booklets that the group purchased from the Pituitary Foundation, one copy to every GP practice in Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin.
Without kind donations from the public this would not have been possible – the group hope to be able to purchase more GP factfile booklets to deliver them to all the GP practices throughout Mid Wales.
Since the group was formed in November 2010 the donations have enabled the group to purchase t-shirts and have the group’s logo embossed on them for supporters to wear when they are out raising awareness. The group have also purchased promotional banners to help raise awareness of Pituitary conditions.
The Pituitary gland is the master gland for controlling our body’s hormone production – it is the conductor of the orchestra.
The Pituitary gland does not get the recognition it so richly deserves for when it goes wrong it can create many problems.
Everyone knows about cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and strokes, but Pituitary conditions get very little publicity.
The Shropshire and Mid-Wales Pituitary Group’s main aim is to promote and raise the awareness of Pituitary conditions.
