Cup defeat for STFC Ladies

22 October 2013

Two goals not enough for the Ladies

A stirring second-half fightback was not quite enough to save Shrewsbury Town Ladies from losing 3-2 to Whitchurch Alport in the Shropshire Women's Challenge Cup at the Shrewsbury Sports Village.

Town found themselves 3-0 down at half time but then made a real game of it after the restart with goals from Olivia Minshall and Phoebe Meyrick cutting the arrears.

Town manager Sean Evans said: "The girls gave everything in the second half to turn it round but unfortunately the damage was done in the first half.

"At least we have another chance to put it right in the Cup as this season it's being held on a round-robin basis and we could still progress.

"We now need to move on and look forward to Sunday's game at home to North Staffs in the Stafffordshire County League which will be another tough test."

Kick off on Sunday is 2pm at the Shrewsbury Sports Village with all support welcome.
