Ladies beaten in last minute

1 October 2013

Late heartache for Ladies team

Shrewsbury Town Ladies were sunk by a last minute goal as they were beaten 3-2 at home by Newcastle Town in their second Staffordshire Ladies League game of the season.

Having kicked off the campaign with a 7-0 win over Tamebridge, the newly-formed team were set for another victory when a Chloe Bland brace gave them a 2-1 lead at the Shrewsbury Sports Village.

Newcastle equalised just before half time and then sealed victory in the last minute just as it seemed the points would be shared.

"It was very harsh on the girls to lose so late on in the game," said manager Sean Evans.

"It was a very scrappy game but I felt we did enough to earn at least a draw. Now we must pick ourselves up and go again next weekend where we face a tough trip to Newcastle Ladies."
