Joint Statement From Wolves and Shrews Fans

Joint Statement From Wolves and Shrews Fans

Shrewsbury Town and Wolves supporters have today issued a joint statement asking both sets of fans to turn Saturday’s sold-out League game at Greenhous Meadow (Saturday, 21st September 2013, Kick-off: 1:00pm)  into a positive occasion and an advert for football in the region.

Both sides will be playing in the League for the first time since the 1984/1985 season and with a 28-year gap, supporters are aware of the possibility of derby-day tension overflowing into scenes, which could damage the reputation of both clubs and fans.

Representatives from Wolves Fans Parliament travelled to Shrewsbury to meet with Shrews supporters along with Paul Richards, Wolves Supporter Liaison Officer and Martin James from Shrewsbury Town.

Steve Parkes, Wolves supporter and Fans Parliament member, said: “We wanted to put this statement out with the Shrews fans to say that all decent supporters want to see a game played in a great spirit – on and off the pitch.

“The reality is that any issues at the game could result in reduced allocations for Wolves away games, which will affect all the supporters who are already struggling to get tickets. So the message is simple: enjoy what we’re sure will be a great game.”

Martin James, Shrewsbury Town, said, “It is a very positive move to have supporters and officials from both clubs meeting and together producing an upbeat message for all fans to get behind their teams. We all have a responsibility to make the match a safe and enjoyable experience.

“Let us hope both teams play to the best of their ability, the fans enjoy the day out and football is a winner.”

As the game is a sell-out both sets of supporters are also being asked to make sure they arrive at the ground early enough to give themselves plenty of time to take their seats before the kick-off.
