Support Non League Day

5 September 2013

No Town game this weekend so support one of the other local sides

With Shrewsbury Town having no match this weekend, Martin James, the head of community development at the Greenhous Meadow, hopes the club's supporters will throw their support behind the annual Non League Day.

Town had been scheduled to be away to Bristol City on Saturday but the match has been postponed and rearranged for Tuesday, September 17 (7.45pm) owing to the Ashton Gate club having three players on international duty.

Non League Day has become a popular addition to the football calendar with supporters of Premier League and Football League clubs urged to watch one of their local Non League sides.

Non League Day is growing each year with a number of various events, with BBC Radio 5Live, Kick It Out and Sky Soccer AM helping spread the word.

"It's always nice to support grassroots football," said Martin James. "It's an ideal opportunity for Shrewsbury Town supporters to do that this weekend as we have no game and I know many local clubs always appreciate a bit of extra backing.

"There's plenty of well run Non League clubs in Shropshire, many of them dependant on willing volunteers, so this is a good chance for Shrewsbury Town supporters to lend their support."
