Final Third Development League
Town: Harry Lewis, Ryan Hickman, Jeff Watkins, Dom Smith (c), Ben Burton, Alex Fletcher, Joe Kenton (Jack Butts 70), Niall Flint, Ethan Jones, Kaiman Anderson, Nathan Millis
Subs: Alex Ashton
The Game was played at the Port vale training ground and saw a reserve team consisting of current 1st year scholars as well as five U16 Academy players.
The game plan was to press high up the pitch which was achieved and we put Port Vale under pressure for the majority of the first half. We created seven opportunities to Port Vale’s one in the first half but couldn’t turn that good possession into goals.
The second half continued in much the same vein where we have seen excellent performances from full-backs Ryan Hickman and Nathan Millis where their overlapping and support play to our wide men caused significant problems for the Port Vale defence.
The boys continued their dominance throughout the second half but couldn’t convert any of the number of chances which we created.
We played the last 15 minutes with 10 men following an injury to Jeff Watkins after all out substitutes had been used. The boys stuck to their game plan of pressing and again with 10 men continued to create numerous chances but failed to convert.
An excellent performance all round which puts us in good stead for the start of the next season as this is the squad which will be taking on our youth alliance campaign. A very encouraging and positive performance.
The Final Third Development League fixtures finish at home to Morecambe on 29th April, kick-off to be confirmed.
