Skipper ready as Town look to the Great Escape

Shrewsbury Town captain Tamika Mkandawire says Saturday's Greenhous Meadow clash with Stevenage is a huge game.

The two teams will start the day at the foot of the League One table but both sides know victory could potentially lift them out of the relegation zone.

Town will follow the Stevenage match with two equally important games against Tranmere and Crewe as the club target a great escape.

Mkandawire kicks off his captain's column for Saturday's matchday programme by underlining the importance of the next few weeks.

"The games we have coming up are absolutely huge for us," writes the skipper. "We are playing the teams around us in the table and know these are games we need to win.

"It's vital we take points off Stevenage and then do the same to Tranmere and Crewe.

"We are well aware of the situation we find ourselves and the magnitude of the matches.

"In terms of confidence, it was a great result to end our wait for a home win against Bradford the last time we played at the Greenhous Meadow, especially the way we came back from a goal down so late on.

"Hopefully that will give us a bit more confidence in front of the home fans and we can give you all something to cheer again by coming away with three big points."
