Players wanted to represent Town in national leagueShrewsbury Town Community Sports Trust are recruiting students for the 2014/15 academic year to represent the Club in the Football League Trust's National Fustal League.
This is the only place in Shropshire that you can represent a professional football club in a league which is covered by Soccer AM every Saturday.
Through the CST, the Football League Trust Education and Futsal programme is now recruiting for its second cohort starting in September 2014.
Our students receive their BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport Education. The futsal coaching is undertaken by STCST coach Alex Ramsay, an international futsal player with Wales.
As an extension to the futsal provision, our students take part in the National Citizen Service (NCS) programme which allows them to develop confidence and social skills alongside building team work and delivering a social action project.
It is all designed to increase their skills and attributes which are so important on their CV’s for future employers or University entrance.
The Community Sports Trust runs an extensive programme of coaching sports in schools, development centres, holiday courses and tournaments throughout the year.
This offers opportunities for the futsal students to engage in coaching support can lead to them taking coaching and referee qualifications in futsal and 11-a-side football.
Ryan Dean, a current Futsal and Education Programme student, said: "Since I joined in September I’ve really enjoyed the academic and the playing side of the course.
"The educational side of the course has been good since the start of the year as the tutors help you a lot to get the highest grades.
"The units that you do throughout the first year are very exciting and interesting.
"The futsal side of the course is fun as the skills you learn help you to become a better player.
"I would endorse the futsal pathway to any prospective young player."
