Skipper and the lads ready for the season kick-off on SaturdayLiam Lawrence is excited that the waiting is nearly finally over as Shrewsbury Town get ready to begin a new League 2 season at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
Town's new captain admits he cannot wait to get started as the minutes tick down to kick off at Kingsmeadow against the Dons.
"I've been ready to go since the first friendly," said the midfielder. "I just want to get the season started and get back to league football and winning games."
Liam has spent his career playing in the Premier League, Championship and in the top flight of Greek football since his early days as a youngster at Mansfield.
But he revealed he has played at AFC Wimbledon before so he knows what to expect this weekend.
"I played there in a pre-season friendly a couple of years ago with Portsmouth and it was okay," he added. "They've been on their way back up for a number of years now and they've done well to get what they've got.
"Wimbledon's quite a famous club in England so it's going to be tough when we go there, I know that. The fans will be close to the pitch and they will be on us so we don't under estimate them at all."
