Potential Transfer Not To Happen

11 August 2014

Last-minute change of mind from player on Town switch

Manager Micky Mellon says the potential transfer he spoke about at the end of last week will now not happen.

The Town boss was close to making his 17th signing of the summer before the player in question changed his mind over the move at the last minute.

Micky said: "We got a call this morning that said the player had changed his mind.

"The club was fantastic all the way through and they kept their word certainly, but the dissapointing thing is that players do that at times.

"If it was the other way around and we'd done that to a player this morning then I'd have been dissapointed as the manager of the Club.

"We move on and get on with business."

Micky looked to strengthen his squad ahead of the League Two kick-off at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

Town still have until the end of August, when the transfer window shuts, to make further signings and Micky has said before that he is happy with his squad but all good managers look to improve when the opportunity arises.

"Everybody jumps on it, I'll always look to try and improve it," said Micky.

"There's no absolute target where I'm desperate to go and do this or do that.

"For the whole duration that I'll ever be here, I'll look to try and improve it.

"All the lads in the building, I'll keep trying to make them better and they're getting better all the time, or if I feel that someone we've been watching becomes available, we'll do all we can to bring them in.

"They'll have to fit in with what we want to do and our structure but I'll never stop, probably only when the transfer window shuts.

"If you want to improve a football club then you've got to keep improving the playing staff, and one of the ways is by bringing new players in."
