Nathaniel looking forward to helping Town push back up the table

Anthony Reeves talks to new signing Nathaniel Mendez-Laing.

Mendez-Laing joins Shrewsbury’s on an initial month loan from Peterborough.

Asking Mendez-Laing on how the move came about, the 21 year old said:“My agent was speaking to Jacko quite a bit and the interest was there, a few problems at Peterborough but when I got the call saying he wants me down here, I didn’t think twice and came here to play and help Shrewsbury climb up the table.

“I was buzzing to get it sorted as it had been ongoing a bit, especially with two days of the transfer window I was getting a bit nervous, but I’m happy it got done.“

After scoring past Ryan Woods, Laing said the banter between the two was good.

The 21 year old said: “To be fair I came in with Woodsy on my first morning because he was with Connor and we had a bit of banter about it.

“All the lads are top lads and I know McAllister from Sheffield United, so it was easy to settle down.”

Mendez- Laing comes with a bit of pedigree, by playing for some good clubs. “I have been at a few decent clubs, had a few loan moves when I was at Wolves and there are a few young players here, which always helps and the other players who are there to guide you. “

Asking if he would be against a longer loan if all goes well, Mendez- Laing said:‘No not at all, if I can do my bit then hopefully it can get extended until the end of the season.

The on loan midfielder is impressed with the set up at the club mentioning about the pitches compared to his parent club:‘It’s a very nice set up, pitches are nice, pitches over at Peterborough aren’t in the best conditions because of the weather.

Asking whether he is raring to go the youngster commented:‘Yeah defiantly,  whatever the team is, whether I’m on the bench or starting, hopefully I can do my bit for the team.

“Two or three wins and you’re mid-table, it’s very tight at the bottom. “
