Eaves Stays Until End Of Season

6 January 2014

Tom Eaves loan extended but Cameron Gayle returns to WBA

Tom Eaves loan at Shrewsbury Town has been extended until the end of the season after Graham Turner came to an agreement with Bolton Wanderers.  It means that Tom will be available for Tuesday night’s match at home to Leyton Orient and for the remainder of the SKY Bet League 1 campaign.

Tom made an immediate impact in his debut game away to Stevenage with his first half goal helping Town to their first away win of the season.  Since then he’s continued to put in the hard work and has been improving in recent games, especially playing as the lone striker in the 2-1 win away to Oldham Athletic.

The news comes as a boost to Graham Turner as he prepares his squad for the important Tuesday night game against high flying Leyton Orient: “Tom Eaves loan has been extended until the end of the season and we are pleased about that.

“I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Tom since he came back but he was short of game time and hadn’t played much football until the games he played for us.

“We know he can score goals, we know he can contribute to our cause and we are glad to have him with us until the end of the season.”

Cameron Gayle’s loan from West Brom has expired and GT won’t be extending Cam’s stay at Town.  The form of Ryan Woods has kept Gayle out of the squad and with Jermaine Grandison back in contention and Connor Goldson on a 24 hour recall option at Cheltenham there is good cover for the right-back slot:”Ryan Woods has played in there and played very well, Connor Goldson is capable of playing there and Jermaine Grandison isn’t far off being fit.

“Cameron didn’t really have the opportunity to play much, he played the first half at Stevenage and after that but he is a good player.”

Connor Goldson’s loan spell at Cheltenham Town is coming to an end, GT would be happy for Connor to stay out on loan but with a 24 hour recall in place:”It’s a step down from playing in our league but he has played a few games at centre back for Cheltenham and has done OK.

“The experience will do him the world of good, we would want a 24 hour recall should we need him and it’s the best situation for both parties.

“He will be a better player when he comes back to us and I have no doubt in my mind that Connor has the ingredients to be a good player.”

We reported last week that Adam Reach has returned to Middlesbrough after his loan spell at Town had expired.  With a new manager in place at Boro Adam wants to see what the options are at his parent club but GT would be happy to extend the loan spell further:”Adam wants to see the new manager at Boro, take part in some training sessions and maybe play a game so he can show what he can do and I understand that.

“I’ve spoken to Adam and he said if he doesn’t get the opportunity to get near the first team then he would love to come back, Middlesbrough would like him to come back so there is the situation before the end of the month where he could be back here.”

There was some bad news for youngster Jack Gwilliams who signed on a 6 month pro contract at the start of the season after progressing through the youth ranks at Town.  He picked up an injury in pre-season which has kept him out, he in on the road to recovery but GT won’t be extended his deal:”Jack’s contract has expired and we are not going to renew it.

“He will continue to get treatment from us and will train with us so he might get back into full training and impress someone.”
