Sidney Schmeltz looking forward to pulling on a Town shirt
New signing Sidney Schmeltz is raring to get started at Shrewsbury Town after agreeing a loan deal until the end of the season from Oldham.
The 24-year-old impressed in a JPT win for Oldham at Greenhous Meadow in September and the Dutchman is thrilled to have the opportunity to now play for Town.
“I’m really pleased and happy to be here. I’m looking forward to everything, it’s a new place and a new start – let’s do this,” said Schmeltz.
“At my age it’s important that I play on a regular basis and I’m just here to help this team out and do my best for Shrewsbury. My personal goal is also to show Oldham as they let me go and that I can rip it up here in League One for Shrewsbury.
“I need to be confident and obviously the result is above everything, but after that I want to give the audience a good show - I’m an artist.”
Schmeltz trained for the first time with his new team mates today and he is available for selection at MK Dons – a match he is hoping to feature in.
“I’m hoping for my first start. I have been preparing myself for this kind of situation so that I would be fit if a move came about. I did my work, but it’s up to the gaffer what he wants to do, I’m ready.
“I think you have to be afraid of no one. You have to play with a free mindset and work for your team – so if we can do that I think we’ll be alright.”
Asked if he would like a permanent transfer to Town in the summer, Schmeltz suggested that the move here feels right and the vibes he got from GT were all positive.
“Yes, absolutely. That’s also one of the reasons why I came to Shrewsbury. I was looking past the six months loan so obviously this is a potential club to stay at, that’s why I came here.
“I got a really safe, confident feeling out the gaffer – he gives me my confidence back. I’m an emotional person as well, the feeling has to be right and he gave me the feeling I was looking for.”
