Students from Walford and North Shropshire College visit the Greenhous Meadow

Students from Walford and North Shropshire College visited the Greenhous Meadow today to get an insight into the planning and preparation the club is required to carry out before every home fixture.

The students are on a uniformed public services course and are currently studying planning for major incidents.

The club's safety officer Alan Roberts explained to them the different aspects of planning that he has to undertake leading up to a game, the various agencies he has to liaise with, and all the safety checks he has to carry out from 48 hours prior to the game.

Alan spoke about the club’s contingency plans and went through the events which happened at the Port Vale game in 2012 when we had to evacuate the stadium because of a fire.

A number of schools and colleges from all over the county visit the club to get practical experience to add to their classroom work.

Alan said: “The students get a feel for the subjects they’re studying when they come here and get asked questions by me as to what they would do in various scenarios to help their thought process and aid their course development.”
