Reserves beaten at Doncaster

Second string drop to second cup defeat

Shrewsbury Town reserves were beaten 2-0 at Doncaster Rovers in their second group game in the Final Third Development League Cup this afternoon.

A number of first team squad members featured in the Town side with run outs for Joe Anyon, Alex McQuade, Asa Hall, Paul Parry, Tom Bradshaw and John Marsden.

But Doncaster, whose side included experienced duo Jamie McCombe and Paul Keegan, sealed victory thanks to a fourth minute goal from Alex Peterson which was added to by Harry Middleton five minutes from time.

Town were also beaten 1-0 in their opening League Cup group game when Port Vale ran out narrow winners at the Greenhous Meadow last month.

Town's third and final reserve team group game takes them to Leicester City on Tuesday, January 29.    

DONCASTER: Maxted, Meade, Finnegan, Wakefield, McCombe, Whitehouse, Middleton, Keegan, Ferguson, Peterson, Whincop. 

Subs: McLaren, Brown, Lund, Dawson, Steadman.

SHREWSBURY: Joe Anyon, George Carpenter, Dominic Smith, Alex McQuade, Jack Richards (Ben Burton 65), Josh Ginnelly (Niall Flint 75), Alex Fletcher, Asa Hall, Paul Parry, Tom Bradshaw, John Marsden. 

Subs: Shaun Rowley, Ryan Hickman.
