Tribute planned at tonight's game

7 January 2014

First home game of New Year set to remember those who have passed

There will be a celebration of the lives of Shrewsbury Town past players, staff and supporters who sadly passed away during 2013 ahead of tonight's home match against Leyton Orient.

It will also be an opportunity for Shrewsbury supporters to pay their respects to Michael Evans, better known to many of his fellow Town fans as 'Monty', whom we were saddened to
hear passed away last week.

"This is a fitting tribute to remember all the past players, staff and supporters of Shrewsbury Town who sadly passed away in 2013," said Martin James, head of community development at the club.

"The chairman has suggested the first home game of the new year should be used as a time of reflection to fondly remember all those people for whom Shrewsbury Town clearly meant so much.

"Of particular note is the recent passing of Michael Evans, known to many of our supporters as Monty.

"We know he would regularly walk to our matches from his home in Montgomery for many years and we were saddened to hear of his passing.

"As well as being an opportunity for our supporters to pay their respects, it will also be a chance for the travelling Leyton Orient supporters at tonight's game to remember some of their loved ones who passed away during 2013."
