First 100% Attendance party brings over 200 children to GM
The Greehnous Meadow played host its first every 100% school attendance parties on Thursday evening, with more than 200 children seeing their achievements celebrated.
Town Manager Micky Mellon, assistant Michael Jackson and summer signing Jason Leutwiler were on hand to sign autographs, present certificates and pose for photographs whilst all the pupils present were given a voucher for a free ticket to a Town pre-season game and given the chance to see behind the scenes.
Matt Williams, Town’s Chief Executive, said: “This was a first for the club and we are delighted with the take up by the schools and people of Shropshire.
“We know that pupils who regularly attend school learn at a quicker rate, and have better exam results, which in turn give them a greater choice with regards to their future.
“All the children attending the event have worked very hard throughout the year and they all deserve to celebrate their efforts.
“Of course there is more that we can do to reduce absences and increase attendance, such as improving help for children to get to school and reminding parents of their responsibilities.
“We hope our work directly in schools and with families is helping to drive up attendance across the county, which can only be good for the pupils who go to school in Shropshire.
“We would like to thank Sainsbury’s for sponsoring for the event and to our Community Sports Trust for arranging and hosting the event and we hope that more schools and pupils embrace this campaign and who knows the parties next year might have to cover an entire week rather than just one night!”
