Blind Football Day At Town

21 July 2014

England team visit the Greenhous Meadow

England's blind football team visited the Greenhous Meadow on Monday and got to show off their talent against the Shrewsbury Town squad.

Town's Community Sports Trust launched the Club's first-ever blind football team earlier in July and will partner the Royal National College for the Blind, and compete in the National Blind Football League and the BBS Visually Impaired National Football League next season.

The players got to try their hand with a blindfold on and it proved to be a challenging but enjoyable experience for most of the Town squad.

Defender Mickey Demetriou said: "It was difficult, that's the most easiest way to explain it.

"But I really enjoyed experiencing that sort of pressure. I watched blind football a couple of times on the television so it was a great honour to experience playing it.

"We had three against one every time and yet the blind player kept getting past us. The control they have on the ball is fantastic and I'm sure they enjoyed running rings around us.

"We all had really good fun on the day."
