Connor Goldson weighs up options

1 July 2014

Connor back in training but not signed up as yet

Connor Goldson has reported back to the Greenhous Meadow for the start of pre-season training as he continues to weigh up his options.

The club have offered the defender a new contract and manager Micky Mellon hopes he will remain a Shrewsbury Town player.

Micky said: "He's obviously got a lot going on at the moment and he's got decisions that he wants to make.

"We'll give him the time that he needs to do that.

"We'll have an open conversation with him and we're hoping that we can resolve that situation quickly."

Micky added: "It's a difficult one because Connor has every right to go and speak to other clubs. He's in that position that he can do that.

"He's obviously under 23 so the club are in a position where we would still get some compensation for him if that does happen.

"That's the situation at the moment and I don't think it's a matter of what we've offered or what we've not offered. It's Connor exercising his right to go and speak to other clubs. He has every right to go and do that.

"Obviously it's frustrating from our point of view because we would like to know exactly what the situation is, but we've got to be patient.

"Yes, it's on our own hands a little bit, but it isn't because he has the right to be able to do that. Until he signs he's not completely our player although we retain his registration.

"He's a good lad, he's trained really, really well and I can see the quality that he has.

"We'll just have to be as patient as we possibly can and hopefully we'll get something sorted very quickly."
