Micky pleased with his striking options
Micky Mellon believes his latest signing Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro will add more pace and power to his Shrewsbury Town front line.
The manager was pleased to bring in the French striker who has spent the last two years with Tranmere to give him extra options up front alongside two more new signings James Collins and Scott Vernon.
"I said right at the very start that I wanted to get some pace and power up at that end of the pitch and people desperate to score goals," said Micky.
"I've had a chat with Akpa about wanting him to score more goals. With the team that we've created now there will certainly be a lot more action in that final third which will enable him to ply his trade a lot more at that end of the pitch and score himself some goals.
"There's obviously some good competition now at that end of the pitch which we're trying to create all over the squad. That's one of the many reasons why we've brought in Akpa."
Micky knew it was important to bring in another striker after Tom Bradshaw decided to move on to Walsall.
He said: "Everybody knows about the Bradshaw situation so I had to go out and get another striker. I didn't want to lose the lad, I think I made that clear.
"I had to go out and get another striker and I'm delighted to get Jean-Louis in. He's experienced at this level and has got lots of games under his belt.
"He's a talented footballer who will again do what I want him to do in order for us to play the way that I want us to play so I'm delighted to have him on board."
