Under-18s friendly: Liverpool 2-0 Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town’s youth team gave a positive account of themselves at Liverpool’s Academy despite being beaten on Thursday afternoon.

First-half goals from Yan Dhanda and a young trialist gave the Premier League Reds victory in the pre-season friendly.

But Ian Dawes’ side created chances in either half and kept their opponents at bay for much of the contest.

Town could have taken the lead after ten minutes in the sweltering heat, but defender Ben Burton’s header looped onto the roof of the net from Kaiman Anderson’s free-kick.

Anderson also found a chance on the edge of the Liverpool penalty area in the 20th minute but blasted a half volley over.

And the ruthless Reds showed their quality by taking the lead after 33 minutes when a trialist headed home Chris Owens’ cross from the left.

Neil Critchley’s side then doubled their advantage a minute before the break as Dhanda curled the ball first time into Harry Lewis’ top corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Town came out from the interval looking to pull a goal back but their best chance was curled narrowly over the crossbar by substitute Jordan Wilson.
