Micky Mellon pleased with the way his new look squad is coming together

Micky Mellon is delighted that his new-look Shrewsbury Town squad continues to take shape following the exciting additions of James Collins and Mickey Demetriou this week.

The manager is currently out of the country on a family holiday but is keeping right up to date with everything at the Greenhous Meadow and is continuing to speak to transfer targets on the phone.

He is pleased to have sealed a return to Shrewsbury for striker Collins, 23, who is back at the Meadow after spells with Swindon and Scottish club Hibernian.

"James is one we've been trying to do since we first came in," said Micky. "I know a lot about the lad myself. I remember him at Swindon and saw him at Hibs.

"He's definitely the type of age and the type of striker we're after as he's hungry and he wants to do well.

"He obviously has an affinity with the football club as well which is an added bonus.

"I'm really looking forward to working with him. I've had a long conversation with him and he's one of the players I've actually spoke to since I've been out here.

"I was up to speed with pretty much everything that was going on with him."

Micky added he was also happy to have brought in left back Demetriou from Kidderminster Harriers.

He said: "He fits what we're trying to do. He's another lad that's hungry to do well. A fantastic athlete, a good footballer and he's got a lot of experience at Conference level in a good team that was always challenging at the right end of the table.

"He's an England C international which probably tells you that he's the best left back in non-League football at the moment.

"We were aware that there were a lof of clubs sniffing around him and we knew we had to move on that one quickly. I was speaking to him before I came away and was fully aware that when he came back from England C duty that he was going to come in and sign. I'm delighted with that one as well."
