Former Shrewsbury Town star Joe Hart is excited about helping England make an impact in the World Cup Finals which kick off in Brazil tonight when the host nation take on Croatia.

Hart, England's first choice goalkeeper, is set to make his first appearance in the World Cup Finals when England begin their group campaign against Italy on Saturday night (11pm UK time).

He was an unused substitute when the Finals were held in South Africa in 2010. Four years earlier when Germany were hosts he had just completed his move from Shrewsbury to Manchester City.

Shrewsbury-born Hart has now been capped 41 times at senior level after receiving his first call up to represent England when he was selected for the under-19s after breaking into the Town team as a teenager.

Hart and his England team mates arrived in Rio earlier this week after a training camp in Miami.

"We had a good training camp and we're ready now," said Hart. "We got what we could out of it. We were always going to do that.

"We are working hard, we have worked hard every day on and off the field and we've given everything to be prepared.

"We feel good. We feel like we're doing the right things."

England follow up their opening clash with Italy with group games against Uruguay and Costa Rica as they target qualification to the knockout stages.

Hart said: "We really feel like a team - a good strong English team going into a tournament with every chance to express ourselves and do well."
