Shrewsbury Town manager Micky Mellon is really enjoying the World Cup as the tournament moves towards the start of the second round stage in the next few days.

He has watched many of the games live on TV and been impressed with what he's seen so far.

Micky said: "It's a fantastic World Cup, loads of goals and loads of great individual goals. The defending may be a bit poor at times but certainly from a spectating point of view and in terms of excitement and promoting football, it's one of the best World Cups I've seen and I hope that can continue right the way to the final."

He feels hosts Brazil or South American rivals Argentina are the likely winners.

"Brazil look like they're starting to kick into gear," he said. "When you look how they performed in their last game, they're gathering a bit of momentum.

"Argentina always have the individuals and that grit and determination that's needed.

"I would still say that anybody who finishes ahead of those two will probably win it - those two will definitely go close."

Despite his Scottish background, Micky insisted he was disappointed by England's early exit.

He said: "I think England played well at times and maybe with a bit of game management it might have been a different situation.

"They were in a tough group with Uruguay and Italy. We always knew it was going to be tough and then Costa Rica have gone ahead and surprised everybody.

"I think they will have learnt a lot for the future and a lot of the lads have got the experience of international football in a tournament. That can only be good for the English national team."
