Micky adds Michael Vernon to his backroom staff
Micky Mellon has strengthened his backroom staff by bringing in Michael Vernon as performance analyst from Premier League newcomers Burnley.
Micky is pleased to have recruited a man of Michael's experience in an area he regards as more important than ever in football these days.
He said: "He's been at Burnley where he's been working in the Championship. He knows how to do things at that level and we're bringing that type of experience into the football club so we know that's going to get done properly.
"He's been down and we've had a good chat so I'm looking forward to him working with us and helping me and the players, making them better, so it's a real good addition to what we've already got here."
The role of analyst is one used by many clubs these days with Micky quick to underline its importance.
He said: "It's huge and not just for knowing about the opposition. It's important that we're able to show players their own performance as well and how they can improve that.
"I've been a player and we didn't have the facilities we've got now. We liked to imagine we were 10 yards closer to a situation or 10 yards further away from one that we didn't want to be at.
"But now when you've got it in real time you can say, well, actually there you are. Why were you there or why weren't you there?
"It helps you as a manager. It's a real positive thing and I'm glad we've got somebody of that quality involved."
